This converted butcher shop, in the middle of practically nowhere, is where an eccentric East German lady concocts up some fine gourmet dishes, so much so that she's got 17 points on Gault Millau.
The decor is simple, homely and to be honest, a little cramped, even though there are only 6 or 7 tables. Service is done by Carmen's husband and some helpers and is efficient, polite and friendly. The wines are a rather eclectic selection and we went for Carmen's suggestion which turned out to be a light, dry red which suited most dishes. Of the other wines, I just did not know them!
The food is generally outstanding, and the 5-course tasting menu is generous and more filling than many 7-course menus from other poncy restaurants. There is nothing but good honest dining here. Everything is cooked brilliantly and it's almost bizarre to find such a good restaurant in the middle of Brandenburg but I've got to say that it was well worth the effort. It's an off-beat thing to do but if you got the time and inclination, then I don't think you will be disappointed as long as you book in advance.
I would recommend taking the train as the motorway is quite complicated due to a forgotten junction. The S-Bahn train from central Berlin takes around 50 mins and the restaurant is just a few mins stroll.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
