Food was excellent, ambiance was a bit lacking.
We went to La Boule Rouge based on the reviews. The food is North African, specializing in couscous. We went on a Saturday night and were seated in a spill over area; the main dining room was hopping but our little nook felt isolated. We ordered a Tunisian sampler as an appetizer and two entrees (couscous with chicken and couscous with beans) and it was far more food than we needed. The entrees, which were abundant, also came with a large bowl of soup and a side of spinach. All of it was excellent, especially the beans, which were cooked with what seemed like beef short ribs. The food kept on coming - even when I was stuffed, the otherwise gruff waitress insisted on bringing me another plate of couscous and beans. I was thankful for our long walk back to the Pigalle to burn off some calories.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rachel C.Westfield, アメリカ合衆国141312015年9月10日
If you are a fan of great North african food, RUN don't walk to La Boule Rouge.
our Parisian friends took us there after they raved about it for days!! First of all, it is very easy to find, just one block from the Folies Bergere theater. Second,if you're driving , you can get valet parking if you want it ( 10 euros) - third the BEST WAITER IN THE WORLD was Fauzey, ask for him- he knew what I was thinking before I knew what I was thinking- and, most of all, the food was fabulous. We were met at the table by an array of appetizers -salads,beans,bulgur with harissa sauce, etc. But that was just the beginning. I had the lamb in the pot with loads of tomato sauce- piled it on top of my couscous. Just when I was ready to burst, Fauzey brought me a dessert -on the house- a ravishing white semolina like cake in syrup. He also brought us a pot of mint tea. If you are coming on a Saturday night I suggest reservations. come early ,like 8 pm.We seemed to be the only tourists in the place, most of the clientele was a mix of sophisticates, yuppies,French families and Muslim families- good mix. The atmosphere was not stuffy parisien at all ,people seemed to be able to speak ,laugh, easily. .
Joyce, my friend told me that the restaurant is absolutely kosher,if that is important to you,but not listed as kosher because the owner does not want to work under the restrictions -one of which is not opening on saturdays i believe.Anyway, I sought out the elderly owner( Monsieur Raymond) who was manning the bar and told him in bad French that I loved the place. he gave a a vigorous hug and kisses (2 cheeks in Frence). If you go- tell Fauzy/Raymond that Rachelle, Joyce's Americaine friend sent you.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Thomas O.サンフランシスコ, アメリカ合衆国012013年11月3日
We were drawn to this restaurant because it was featured in a favorite film, The Rabbi's Cat. We were welcomed very warmly by the owner and made to feel at home. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not live up to expectations. The salads seemed to have been prepared too long before they were served and the meat course was adequate, but did not distinguish itself among the other couscous restaurants we've enjoyed in Paris.
