When my 97 Ford Falcon travel van broke down on 87 S. outside of Albany, I knew itbwasn't that far to be towed to Steyers auto service. They had given an inspection for the van a year before and I remembered them as being kind, friendly and a family run business. My van broke down on a Sunday so without even getting an OK from them, I had my van towed to Steyers and left my keys in the dropbox. They called me the next day on Monday to let me know they were backed up with work and would I mind the wait. I said no and in a week they had an estimate and said they could search out the needed parts for my old lady. Several weeks later I had her back running like new again! I would recommend Steyers highly!

Had to get our van towed when it was having a starting issue. Tow driver was polite and super efficient. Our van has had SO many other mechanics look at it and not know what was wrong. We're given band-aid fixes just to have the same issue over and over. Steyers took their time to make sure they property diagnosed what was wrong. Always patient listening on the phone to our concerns. Have had it a few weeks since it was fixed and no starting issues at all! Fixed in good time and when we had other questions they gave good recommendations. We'll be back for sure!

Any good reviews about this place are probably written by people who work there. Failed to fix fuel line issues. Broke down two weeks later for same problem. Overpriced, no apology, no compensation, and no call back.

Stephanie,
The facts are as stated
1-$3000 of repairs and the original noise is STILL there
2-Parts WERE marked up 300% and more
3-He DID leave driving an unsafe vehicle
4-We GOT the runaround and attitude
5-The owner and son ARE clueless
6-The staff WAS rude
I believed I was having a conversation with the owner and the billing clerk and never thought that the owners son and other people were lurking around the corner and would come out and try to intimidate me and ask questions that had nothing to do with the repair. The owner (your father) stated several times no one ever questioned his parts markup or his ability to properly repair a vehicle. After reading the helpful reviews posted on social media the only conclusion I can come to is he lied or he is clueless. The only thing that was inaccurate is that YOU are clueless as well. Social media is used to let people know about our specific experience and everyone is entitled to an opinion. Take it as constructive criticism and learn from peoples bad experiences. I see that you refute all bad reviews, take some responsibility and realize that no one is perfect. You can and did make mistakes on this repair. I stand by everything I wrote. The time frame involved in our questioning the excessive cost has nothing to do with the whole issue, you OVERCHARGED us and did not fully diagnose the problem. If someone approves a repair of you installing a bolt that costs $1 and you charge them $1000 for that bolt it does change the fact you overcharged them! In this case you paid about $300 for parts and charged us over $800. As an example a $38 tie rod link I can buy at Advance Parts (and you bought for less then $30) you charged us over $70! It's just business don't take it personally.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0ビジネスオーナー情報

Peter M. rather than relay incorrect information on social media, perhaps you should state ALL the facts, rather than a select few. When your son arrived at our facility to diagnose his vehicles issues, we told him very specifically that it was UNSAFE to drive. He chose to drive our of our facility and schedule an appointment at a later date. Unfortunately, that evening the ball joint broke and caused additional damage, not only mechanically but cosmetically as well. We can not force someone to take responsibility for their safety. We can only advise them of the problem and offer suggestions. As we tried to explain to you when you stopped in, we mark our parts up to market standards or suggested list price from our various suppliers. I'm sorry if you feel we are not entitled to make a profit, but that is how businesses stay in business. Your son and his stepfather were given quotes before any work was performed and both agreed to the estimates given. If either of these gentlemen has any questions, that would have been the time to bring them forward. Not 6 weeks later through you, who was never part of the repair process. We try to please all of our patrons and to be fair and honest. I am sorry you feel we did not meet our goals with your sons vehicle. We strive daily to reach this goal and will continue to do so.

They allowed us to drive out with a dangerous vehicle and we could of died (the wheel fell off) Tried to talk to them and got the runaround and attitude. Staff was rude and the owner and his son are clueless.

Driving up the highway in an unfamiliar town late one night my radiator overheated, spraying steam out of the hood. I pulled over and coordinated a wrecker, who towed me to Steyer's. I spent the night at a hotel, fearing that I was going to be raked over the coals in the morning. Imagine my surprise when they told me the hose merely needed to be tightened and the cap replaced...with parts, coolant and labor it was just over $100 to get me back on the road. And they even picked me up at the hotel! I'm grateful for their service, and glad to know them.

These guys are hacks. Do not take your car here unless you want the work done wrong and then get overcharged for it. This is the kind of business that gives "upstate" the wrong reputation.

If you want an upscale waiting room, with a cappuccino machine, this ain't it. Country comfortable, clean and basic. They repair anything from my Prius to a cement truck to a full sized motor home to your SUV in high, truck sized repair bays. They are one of the the only facility permitted to tow on the NYS Thruway (I 87). The shop is clean and orderly with modern test equipment and tools. The mechanics look like mechanics, not dental hygienists. The tow vehicles, of various sizes, are new looking, modern, clean, well equipped. It's a family owned business and Mr Steyer is working along with the boys in the bays, daughter doing the scheduling and the books, relieved by other family members now and then. If you have no one to drop you off, they will bring you home then come pick you up. They are friendly, they kid around, they work at a reasonable pace. They sit with you and explain what they found in the level of detail that you can understand, what they recommend and what you can put off for a while if you keep an eye on it. Perfect? Only God is perfect, especially with our sophisticated, very complicated, modern vehicles. But they have a better track record than most everyone else I've engaged or worked with; I was an auto mechanic for a number of years in my younger days so I understand more than a bit and know when someone is BSing me. I've been going to them for years. Not cheap; they do good work for the current going rate.

These people are low lifes. I brought my car in to get a problem diagnosed. They took a 1/2 hour to assess a problem that should have taken five minutes. Instead an incredible charade transpired. I guess these mechanics think they are amateur actors.
Don't go here !!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0ビジネスオーナー情報

Hiro P. Todays vehicles are very complex pieces of machinery. The old days of opening the hood and checking the points and condenser are long gone. Several computers now keep your vehicle running within manufacturers specifications. In order to properly diagnose your vehicles problem it takes time. Our diagnostic computers must be plugged into your vehicles, codes retrieved, as well as several other steps in order to give you, the vehicle owner a proper diagnosis and estimate for repair. Sometimes it may be as simple as a new gas cap. But until the steps and procedures are followed there is no way to tell. We at Steyer's always try to offer comprehensive information to the vehicle owner so that you can make an informed decision about your repair needs. We can only do that if we have the correct information and that sir, does take a little bit of time.

I went to get my car evaluated for a mechanical problem. I used to tinker with cars so I knew what the problem was. I simply don't have the time and working under the car is just no fun for me any more. I simply wanted the job done correctly and for a fair price. These people misdiagnosed the problem entirely. So I told them I would get back to them. So what do they do? They tried to hold my car hostage and would not return my car keys. They said after the fact that their was a charge for their "professional " inspection which they would apply as a credit for the repair. . I eventually got my car keys after arguing with them about the never agreed to inspection fee after a customer walked in. I think they realized that they were about to lose a prospective customer. YOU do NOT want to go here.

James P. As you stated in your review, time is valuable. So it is in every business. Thus the reason for the diagnostic fee. We do offer to credit you this fee if we perform the repair on your vehicle. I'm sorry if you were not satisfied with your visit to our facility and I hope you give us a second chance to satisfy your automotive needs.

Charged my young children whom where stuck in town with a dead battery in a Honda Odyssey $279.00 to fix it....
$279 for battery and installation. No fee for towing as we have AAA. They offered to take it out and tow me to another station because they were "tired of dealing" with my shock at the price...When I found another station just down the road from Steyers and told them they would be willing to do it for $155. They now told me it would be an $85.00 tow fee to take the kids down the road 1/2 mile away. Either way the kids were stuck and I was stuck with their bill.
One star for fast service...
Updated: next day my son returns home with damage to the car from tow!!
STAY AWAY FROM THESE FOLKS Unless you're from in town anyway!
NEWER UPDATE: Was told I paid the "list price" from Advanced auto for my battery...The Advanced Auto site says I would have paid $109.99. Steyer's charged me 178.33. And you know THEY purchased it at a discount because they are paying car repair shop prices!
Boy was I taken advantage of or what!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
