OK so first time here and really pleasantly surprised. We went there for the George Michael night but as it was going to be busy booked a meal just to make sure we could get in. OK so the set evening meal they do was pretty nice, not too much and just the right amount of choice though half the meal is sharing anyway. So the starter was (to share);

PORK RIBS with pineapple BBQ sauce and coconut flakes JERK CHICKEN WINGS with Caribbean island sauce TORTILLA CHIPS with guacamole SALT COD FRITTERS with mango dressing and mango salsa .

You also get a choice of a Daiquiri or a Pina Colada and before 7:30 I learned it's Happy Hour so any extra cocktails you order are two for one - nice! Oh! and with the set meal you also get admission to the party which is normally I think £10. Ok so back to the food, the mains you get a choice of are; From their website:

TACOS Cajun grilled beef fillet with grilled peppers & red onions, chipotle mayo, spring onions and cream, served with sweet potato fries and a maple glaze THAI GREEN CHICKEN CURRY with aubergine, sugar snap peas and steamed basmati rice BUTTERMILK MARINATED JERK FRIED CHICKEN with rainbow slaw, coconut rice & black beans and Caribbean island sauce GRILLED SALMON FILLET with coconut rice & black beans, rainbow slaw, grilled pineapple and Caribbean island sauce CURRIED CAULIFLOWER, POTATOES, CHICKPEAS & SPINACH with steamed basmati rice TROPICANA SALAD Delete repeated word of grilled courgettes, aubergine, mushrooms, spring onions, sweet potato, butternut squash, peppers, baby basil and coriander, feta cheese, charred onion vinaigrette and calypso dressing.

nicely served and just the right portion sizes. It's a nice pre-party meal

Entertainment includes, a fire spinner, live band who do some nice covers, some very fit dancing girls and of course a disco to get the dance floor filled.

If you want to really let your hair down, meet some nice friendly people and grab a bite as well this place should be on your 'must visit' list.

Revamped club, previously Guanabara in Parker Street. Great location, very near Holborn station and close to Covent Garden. Great choice of cocktails, varied food menu and the music and acts all make for a fun evening. Staff are friendly and helpful and it's laid out so u can either be at the back relaxing near the bar or on the benches near the stage.

Tropicana beach club - surely you can forgive me for judging a book by its cover. The name screams cheese. However I was excited to attend their opening evening which promised free flowing alcohol, nibbles and plenty of entertainment. For a 7pm start on a Wednesday I was surprised to see a long queue however it was encouraging that it wasn't going to be dead inside.

As soon as we went in the promise of tropical beach vibes was delivered with men in swim shorts, parrots and palm trees - and that was just the entrance hall. As soon as friendly staff had taken our coats and bags in the cloakroom we were taken upstairs, handed prosecco by more men in swim shorts and were given a brief intro to the clubs bars/areas and what was going on throughout the evening. A lot of the seats were already taken so we found a spot by the bar where we enjoyed our prosecco (and a few more glasses) and then on to the complimentary cocktails I went. There were 4 centering on different spirits and throughout the evening I managed to try 3 of them - the gin based one was delicious and refreshing, the pina colada-esque one was also good but the rum based drink served in a flamingo looked brilliant but was way too strong for me. The first few drinks were served in good time however as the night wore on the queues got bigger and bigger and the service inevitably got slower and slower.

Entertainment wise there was a lot going on - a man playing the steel drums, surf board limbo with shots, amazing sharing cocktails in volcanoes and lovely ladies dancing. By 9pm it was a real fiesta with plenty of nibbles being served as well. A good spread of tacos however they proved hard to eat and were not the best quality.

I was pleasantly surprised with the opening night and the experience gets 4* from me however it still is a pricey club with slow service, a cheesy theme and average food. I know I wont be coming back so 3* from me!

The place was quite busy with a very young crowd, so don't bother wasting your time and money if you're over 21ish. There were broken glasses on the floor, which I felt was dangerous, and the drinks we were served were very small. We didn't eat any food, so can't comment on that.
