Ok, I'm only giving this two stars because I like their beer because my last experience at this place was pure one star awfulness.

So, the beer here is always pretty tasty and the food is always pretty mediocre. A visit prior to our last was met with this awesome interaction:

"oh, we see you have nacho's on special tonight... we'll take an order."

"Sorry, that special is only for Men's Night."

"I'm a man... I'd like to order the nacho's and I promise my wife won't eat any."

"That's not the point of the special sir. It's to bring in groups of men."

"Ok, can I pay $2 more and get the nacho's?"

      "No."

So, given that amazing nugget of customer service, we should have never came back. But we did.

This time we decided to try a new menu item. It was a japanese vegetable pancake and it sounded exciting! When it came out, it was a big pile of soupy dough with vegetables mixed in and awful. But, hey, no big deal... we all make mistakes.

The server quickly noticed us not really eating and asked how things were. We were honest and she said that she could bring us out something else... we went safe and asked for the fries. The rest of our mediocre food came out and we had a mediocre meal and were ok with it.

      Until the check came.

Me: "Oh, excuse me... it looks like you forgot to take the pancake off of the check."

"Yeah, you have to pay for that."

"But you offered to replace it when we said we didn't like it."

"Well, I brought it back to the chef and he said it was cooked perfectly so you have to pay for it."

Well, be happy you managed to squeeze those last few dollars out of me as it is the last you will ever get.

This one's a no brainer! 1856 has an incredible selection of beer and wine, both local and imports. The draft lists is always changing and always interesting. Great music, knowledgeable and friendly staff... everything a bottle shop should be!

Hello Records in Detroit, MI should be the template upon which every vinyl only record store stamps themselves from. I visited recently and was not only blown away by their prices and selection but the staff was extremely knowledgeable and, for real, without pretense. They were the friendliest dudes to every single person that walked through their door.

That means a lot to me. Listening to records isn't some sort of elite club... every single person that's into records got there because someone else shared their passion with them. It can truly change someone's life. Why horde what brings you joy? Spread it!

Bonus points for giving me a free can of beer.

I've taking my vitamins and saying my prayers every night just like the Hulkster asked of me and, afterwards, I fall into a deep, deep sleep. Each and every night, I dream of a place within walking distance that has a casual vibe, delicious wine that's priced akin to having a pint of beer.

Well, folks, my dreams have been answered! Enso has a great vibe, killer tunes, delicious wine and prices that can compete with any bars price for a pint of ale. Bottles range from $17 - 25 (to-go or to stay) if I remember accurately and there's plenty of room to hang out.

BYOF is highly encouraged as food is not their focus.

Wow! A Thai restaurant that finally gets it right. Not only is the food delicious, authentic and filled with fresh ingredients. Not only are the prices affordable.

The atmosphere and service are simply wonderful!!! I know there's often a cultural / language barrier but often times, the best of Thai restaurants miss the mark on atmosphere. Chiang Mai certainly doesn't. It's a place where you can hunker down at the bar, enjoy a local IPA and pick the brain of the staff about trying new dishes. All wonderfully explained in the menu! Highly recommended for folks who want Thai take out, like to eat at a bar but are tired of bar food or date night.

Side note, have you ever experienced fresh peppercorns? Not fresh ground pepper, mind you, actual fresh pepper corns still on the stem and having the consistency of capers... I'm in love! Thanks Chiang Mai for broadening my eating experience!
